A collection of photographs of iris, mainly species iris, taken by Kim Blaxland. Each photograph has the labelling she applied for identification of species, and often the location.
Kim (1941-2011) was an Australian botanist who lived in the USA from 1988 until her death in 2011. She was interested in iris when living in Australia and during several years living in The Netherlands. After moving to the USA, she joined the Society for Pacific Coast Native Iris (SPCNI) and enjoyed a number of their field trips.
Her Pennsylvania garden always had iris.
In later years, Kim became more interested in Viola species. At the time of her death, she was working on a monograph of the ~80 species of Viola found in North America – plants she had observed and recorded across the USA and Canada. Her drawings, photographs and (incomplete) descriptions of Viola spp will be published as a website.
Kim was always happy to share her work. She didn’t want royalties, but asked that she be acknowledged as the photographer.
